CNET readers, and the rest of the internet, have told us that the IRS portal, called Get My Payment, doesn't always work as intended. We wanted to find out why, and how you can try to bypass any roadblocks.

The one-time payment is intended to provide relief from disruptions to work and public life caused by the coronavirus outbreak. Most US residents are eligible to receive up to $1,2000 apiece, and millions already have. For everyone else, the experience can be frustrating. 

An inability to use the Get My Payment tool as designed means you'll be receiving your check by mail, s process that the government said could take up to 20 weeks at a rate of mailing 5 million checks per week.
